Microsemi Presenting Two Papers At PCIM'09, Nurnberg Germany

IRVINE, Calif., May 7, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC) a leading manufacturer of high performance analog mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors, has announced that it will be making two technical presentations during the PCIM'09 Conference being held May 12 - 14 as part of PCIM show in Nurnberg, Germany.

The first paper presents the new range of linear MOSFET modules from Microsemi, focusing on the characterization method used to determine the safe operating area in DC mode. This paper emphasizes the superior performance of Microsemi linear MOSFETs over standard MOSFETs, usually operating in switching mode only.

Microsemi's standard linear module cell is based upon a linear MOSFET associated to an individual shunt resistor to monitor the current in the device and a NTC thermistor to achieve a current or power control as a function of the module case temperature. Such modules are key building blocks to achieve more compact and more reliable linear power systems where many cells must be connected in parallel to reach high output power levels.

The second paper is focuses on module reliability under high temperature variations. It is the result of a collaboration of Microsemi with the laboratories SATIE and INRETS in Cachan and Arcueil respectively which have shown that the fatigue life and the reliability of power electronic devices could be optimized using a thermo-mechanical approach of the problem and suitable failure criteria.

Microsemi is also participating as an exhibitor within the Eurocomp Stand 422, Hall 12.
