PricewaterhouseCoopers Webcast Explores Emerging Risks in a Global Environment

PwC Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Webcast Series: Building the Risk Resilient Organization

NEW YORK, June 15, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) will broadcast a new webcast Thursday, June 18, 2009 on the topic of how risk management programs can be deployed to identify, assess and manage emerging risks. This is the fourth webcast in PwC's new series focused on helping companies anticipate and address the key risks facing their business. The series is designed to help organizations decide which risks may represent significant opportunities and which are rife with potential pitfalls.

"Today's business world is constantly changing-it's unpredictable, volatile, and increasingly complex," said Joe Atkinson, principal with PricewaterhouseCoopers and leader of PwC's U.S. Risk Management practice. "By its very nature, today's business climate is fraught with risk. In this environment, effectively managing governance, risk and compliance has become critical to the success of leading organizations."

"Understanding the 'unknowns' and how risks have changed the course of business have become boardroom issues," added Atkinson. "The world is watching - consumers, investors and regulators are all looking to businesses to make changes that will help restore confidence in the global markets. Those changes can start with a few relatively simple steps toward more effectively linking risk with reward in every business decision."

"Exploring Emerging Risks in a Global Environment" will be broadcast on Thursday, June 18, 2009 and will be presented by PwC principal Joe Atkinson, PwC director Catherine Jourdan, PwC director Christopher Michaelson, and DJ Peterson, Director of Corporate Advisory Services for the Eurasia Group.

Following the June 18th webcast, the series will shift focus to the timely subject of privacy compliance. On September 17, 2009 the series will present a session titled "Privacy Compliance: The Top 10 Things You Need to Know Now." This webcast will provide an overview of current issues in privacy and will explore how companies can better coordinate ongoing compliance efforts with IT/security initiatives. In addition to Joe Atkinson, the webcast will feature PwC director and former Chief Privacy Officer of the Department of Homeland Security, Hugo Teufel. Webcast presenters will include PwC managing director Sergio Pedro and director James Koenig.

"Many companies are inundated with the myriad of diverse and conflicting new domestic and global laws in the privacy sector," said Joe Atkinson. "Organizations must educate their employees and increase their focus on ensuring privacy compliance and information risk management."
