A Season in History -- New Novel Relives a Tumultuous Period of Korean History

SOUTH RIDING, Va., July 15, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the town of Anak lives a prominent North Korean family in 1945. Events unfold through the eyes of Mira, who experiences Japan's occupation and subsequent surrender to the US forces. A moving description of one nation's joyous exoneration, at the moment of liberation a generation ago is vividly portrayed by A Season in History.

The consequent Russian occupation gives birth to a communist regime, and a massive North Korean invasion five years later. The events of Mira's refuge life during the war are intertwined with the major movements of the UN troops.

In peace time, after a turbulent young life controlled by the worldwide political changes of the times, Mira becomes engaged to be married. During a long separation from her fiance, she meets a Frenchman named Adrien, follows her heart and loves him deeply. Mira goes to a village by the sea as she reconciles her disparate feelings. Ultimately, she joins her fiance in Tokyo. Despite emotional scars, Adrien never ceases to love Mira, who holds him tightly in her heart.

Finally, Mira's appreciation of family love culminates in a scene between her two-year old granddaughter and the child's grandfather who was ill at the American hospital in Paris. This scene poetically renders the passing of one generation and the emergence of a new one, emphasizing the personal dimension of the forces of historical change.
