Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) is a diversified specialty metals producer. The Company's products include titanium and titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys and superalloys, zirconium, hafnium and niobium, stainless and specialty steel alloys, grain-oriented electrical steel, tungsten-based materials and cutting tools, carbon alloy impression die forgings, and large grey and ductile iron castings. The Company focuses its technological and manufacturing capabilities to serve global end use markets with diversified and specialized product offerings. End use markets for its products include aerospace and defense, electrical energy and medical.

In the report, the analyst notes:

"During the past four years, ATI has spent more than $1.3 billion in self-funded strategic capital investments. In 2007, in response to the titanium demand, ATI approved the expansion of the titanium sponge production capabilities at its Albany, Ore., facility. This investment of approximately $38 million added 4 million pounds of titanium sponge capacity to the Albany facility, which brought the annual production capacity at that facility to 20 million pounds.

"Also in 2007, the Company began construction of a $450-million greenfield facility in Rowley, Utah, with an annual capacity of 24 million pounds of premium-grade sponge. ATI's new Utah plant, the first of its kind built in the United States in five decades, will produce premium-grade titanium sponge destined for use in high-performance titanium mill products for aerospace, defense, medical and industrial applications. The Rowley facility is on target to begin production in the third quarter 2009. Meanwhile, the upcoming shutdown of ATI's Albany titanium sponge plant has sparked speculation on the future role to be played by the Company's new sponge facility in Rowley."
