Microsemi's PowerDsine PD9000G Midspan Family Wins TMC Labs 2009 Innovation Award

Cites Reliable, Flexible, Energy-efficient Power

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 13, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high performance analog mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors, announced today that its PowerDsine(R) PD-9000 power over Ethernet midspan has been named a TMC(TM) Labs Innovation Award winner for 2009 by Technology Marketing Corporation's Internet Telephony Magazine.

"TMC Labs is proud to name Microsemi's PD9000G midspan a 2009 TMC Labs Innovation Award winner," said Richard "Zippy" Grigonis, executive editor of TMC's IP Communications Group. "The PD9000G midspan is one of a select group of products that we are recognizing in this, our tenth year since establishing our TMC Labs Innovation Award competition. We are pleased to highlight the key role that Microsemi's PD9000G Power-over-Ethernet midspans are playing in the industry's quest for a more reliable, flexible and energy-efficient power infrastructure for today's enterprise networks."

The PowerDsine PD9000 system is the industry's first high-power gigabit-class PoE midspan that fully supports IEEE 802.3at specifications. It simultaneously delivers a variety of system efficiency and backup features, along with smart, enterprise-class network power-management capabilities. The PD-9000G family provides up to 36 watts of power per port (even on all 24 ports simultaneously) over standard Cat 5 cabling. This more than doubles the power that could be delivered using previous PoE standards, making it possible to power a much broader range of terminals including WiMAX transmitters, 802.11n access points, Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) and dome network cameras, and thin clients.

"Microsemi is committed to delivering key new advances in PoE products and technology, and this also requires that we continue to contribute to and acknowledge the important work of the IEEE and other PoE industry standards development bodies," said Sani Ronen, Marketing Manager for Microsemi's PoE Midspan Products. "Our ground-breaking PD9000G midspan showcases the PoE industry's latest technological achievements, and we are very proud that it has been recognized with a 2009 TMC Labs Innovation Award."

About Power over Ethernet Technology

PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each end-device to be carried by data cables, rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires used to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility. The technology was pioneered by PowerDsine, a founding member of the IEEE 802.3af Task Force. The company was acquired by Microsemi Corporation in January 2007 and is now part of Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group.
