SSH, the Original Developer of SSH Protocol, Congratulates the OpenSSH Community
for their 10th Anniversary
HELSINKI, FINLAND and WELLESLEY, Mass. - November 10, 2009
SSH Communications Security (HEX:SSH1V), the forerunning provider of
open-standards-based enterprise security and managed file transfer solutions,
wishes a happy 10th anniversary to the OpenSSH community.
The history of OpenSSH has roots in 1995, when the Secure Shell protocol was
invented by a Finnish entrepreneur, Tatu Ylönen, the founder of SSH
Communications Security Corp. He developed the SSH software for commercial use,
but also decided to release the source code to the public domain to support a
wider adoption of the Secure Shell protocol. Since 1999, OpenSSH has been
developed further by a community of volunteers.
The work of the OpenSSH community supports the market growth of
open-standards-based solutions, and the globalization and automation of secure
business communications within and between organizations. This is also
beneficial to SSH Communications Security, which offers managed file transfer,
auditing, and governance products that are interoperable with OpenSSH solutions.
In growing networked societies, where secure file transfers are a must,
interoperable solutions can lead to considerable cost-savings and efficient and
agile business processes.
