One of "Greenest Hotels in America" Chooses EnerNOC's CarbonTrak to Measure and Manage Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Boston's Seaport Hotel Turns Carbon Management Into Energy Efficiency Savings With CarbonTrak

BOSTON, Jan. 20, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EnerNOC, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENOC), a leading provider of clean and intelligent energy solutions, today announced that Boston’s Seaport Hotel and Seaport World Trade Center (Seaport), which was named one of ForbesTraveler.com’s “Greenest Hotels in America”, is the first hotel to select EnerNOC’s CarbonTrak™ application to better measure and manage its greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint. Seaport chose CarbonTrak to provide a holistic, auditable, and streamlined view of carbon accounting information that can be leveraged to drive actionable, quantifiable energy savings.

“With climate change at the forefront of today’s most pressing issues, Seaport prides itself as a leader in sound environmental policies. Our customers demand high standards of service and business practices, and we make the same demands of our partners. We joined EnerNOC’s demand response network in 2009. This program has identified areas where our organization can reduce energy consumption during peak periods, without impacting our guests. As EnerNOC has proven to be a trusted energy partner, it made sense to expand our relationship to include our carbon measurement and management activities,” said David O’Shaughnessy, President of Seaport.

“Seaport recognizes that managing carbon emissions is a business imperative as much as it is an environmental imperative. When organizations commit to linking carbon reductions to energy efficiency, they see the triple benefit of reduced cost, improved customer service, and reduced environmental impact,” said Tim Healy, Chairman and CEO of EnerNOC.

By using CarbonTrak, Seaport will capture its carbon footprint and report the information voluntarily to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a not-for-profit organization that collects information regarding GHG emissions from more than 2,500 organizations in more than 60 countries. Seaport will also leverage the information collected from CarbonTrak to help prioritize further energy efficiency efforts and projects.

“It’s not just about a number – it’s about what you do with that number once you have it,” said Tom Arnold, Vice President of Energy Efficiency and Carbon Solutions at EnerNOC. “Customers like Seaport can leverage the power of CarbonTrak’s centralized software-as-a-service application to efficiently unite detailed information from disparate sources. With time saved from efficient data collection, businesses can actually take the information they collect and go the next step by using that information to prioritize emission-reduction opportunities, lowering their carbon footprint.”

Seaport, which is a member of the Green Hotels Association, received a 4 out of 5 rating from the Green Key/AAA Eco-Rating Program. In addition to participating in demand response and carbon management, its environmentally-sound practices include leveraging an electrolyzed water system for green cleaning, a composting program for food waste, and an Ozone Laundry System that reduces the amount of detergent needed. In 2009, Seaport purchased enough renewable energy credits to offset the electricity used to power all 426 of its guest rooms and 13 guest floors, and to operate its four guest elevators for the entire year.
