Canton and Wills Point Police Departments Awarded Funding Through the Recovery Act - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant

CANYON LAKE, Texas, Feb. 10, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- COPsync, Inc. (OTCBB:COYN), a software technology provider to law enforcement and emergency service professionals, announces today that the City of Canton and City of Wills Point Police Departments were awarded grant funding through the Recovery Act - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to implement the COPsync™ information sharing technology. The technology will bring them into compliance with federal mandates established by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in regards to interoperability and information sharing.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. JAG-funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures. These funds are administered by the Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Office of the Governor based on competitive scoring by the relevant Council of Governments (COG). Canton Police Department and Wills Point Police Department participated in the competitive grant application process whereby their applications were scored by the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee of the East Texas Council of Governments. Those scores and funding recommendations were then reviewed and received final approval by the Office of the Governor.

COPsync, Inc. CEO, Russell Chaney, said, "We are pleased that federal authorities and state councils of governments see the importance of our real time information sharing software. Their proactive stance on the advancement of technology in law enforcement is critical in order to create a truly nationwide information sharing network. The award of this funding to implement our software with the City of Canton and the City of Wills Point Police Departments further acknowledges the value that COPsync presents within the Law Enforcement Community."
