The American Academy Receives Approval as Online Program Provider by Washington Digital Learning Department

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - March 4, 2010) - The American Academy, a leading online high school and educational services provider, has been designated an approved Online Program Provider by the Washington Digital Learning Department. This important designation demonstrates that the Dropout Recovery program offered by TAA satisfies Washington state requirements per SSB 5410 and WAC 392-502, and allows school districts partnering with TAA to receive state funding for participating students.

"The American Academy is pleased to receive this important designation for our Dropout Recovery program," stated TAA Chief Academic Officer, Rebekah Richards. "We look forward to partnering with school districts throughout the state of Washington to bring dropped out students back to school and back on track for graduation."

The innovative Dropout Recovery Program offered by The American Academy is a turnkey, proven online solution that includes student recruitment, curriculum and instruction, student laptops, local case management, and student mentoring. There is no risk to the school district, and the program can be launched with no budget impact. The program is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and all 200+ courses in the program are taught by Washington-licensed teachers.

The program is already successfully recovering dropouts in Washington. Deborah O'Brien, Principal of Ritzville High School said, "As a small school district with limited resources, we are thrilled that the TAA program is successfully serving students we could not reach with our traditional programs."

Recently joining The American Academy to partner with school districts throughout the state is Roger Nakamura, Learning Solutions Specialist. A native Washingtonian, Roger has worked with school districts across the state for many years to help them utilize technology to increase effectiveness and student achievement. "We are thrilled to have Roger join our team. His deep understanding of the needs and concerns of school districts in Washington will help expand our reach and ultimately make a difference for more students in the state," stated Ms. Richards.
