HERNDON, Va., March 11, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In anticipation of a lull in work at the Hagerstown Maintenance and Modification Center in Hagerstown, Md., Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications (WARN) to 180 employees at the facility.
The WARN Act requires companies to provide advance notice to employees in the event of potential large layoffs.
"This was not an easy decision," said David Tracy, Northrop Grumman Technical Services Hagerstown site director. "However, we find ourselves closing out existing task orders while waiting on new business opportunities. We are taking prudent business measures today to ensure viability of the operation for the future. We value our highly skilled workforce that we've established here at Hagerstown, and we are proactively looking at the possibility of placing employees impacted by this action at other Northrop Grumman sites."
Northrop Grumman anticipates completing current projects with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Customs and Border Protection in mid-June with the potential of new work at the facility in early Fall 2010.
