Photo Release -- Panyu Cable Deploys Entropic Communications' Access Technology for Ethernet-Over-Coax Solution; Targeting Multi-Dwelling Units in China

Panyu to be the First Chinese MSO to Deliver Video on Demand and Data Access to Subscribers Using Leading Ethernet Over Coax Solution

BEIJING, March 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CHINA CONTENT BROADCASTING NETWORK EXPO -- Answering the growing need for a high-performance, cost-effective, and future-proof video delivery technology, Entropic Communications, a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, today announced that Panyu Cable, located in the Guangdong province, has deployed Entropic's Broadband Access Ethernet over Coax (EoC) solution. The EoC solution delivers high performance, scalable "last kilometer" connectivity, bringing video-on-demand (VoD) and data access applications to thousands of Panyu Cable subscribers living in multiple dwelling units (MDUs) throughout southern China.

Capitalizing on its highly successful and field proven MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) solutions, which enable high performance home networks over existing coax wiring, Entropic's Access EoC solution was selected by Panyu Cable for its low latency and high-bandwidth delivery, which are necessary in providing high-resolution video to Panyu's subscriber base. In addition, Entropic's vast experience and field proven deployments, ease of use, cost effectiveness, and flexibility were factors in Panyu's decision.

Entropic's silicon powers the EoC devices which were provided to Panyu Cable by ShenZhen JetNet Technology Co., whose products include an enhanced network management system that allows Panyu Cable to easily monitor and diagnose the network. In addition to VoD, Panyu Cable can offer highly desirable revenue generating services, such as instant messaging and other e-commerce applications directly to the TV, with minimal capital expense.

"Successful deployments of home entertainment solutions in the United States based on the MoCA standard was a key factor in our decision to select Entropic's EoC solution for deployment to our subscribers," said Mr. Chen Jian Feng, CTO of Panyu Cable. "We have installed thousands of ShenZhen JetNet EoC products with the Entropic solution in subscribers' homes and have received extremely high satisfactory customer feedback. Additionally, Entropic's feature-rich and cost-effective EoC solution both fulfills the demanding bandwidth requirements for our subscribers today, and in our opinion is the only technology that can achieve the even higher bandwidth levels needed for the next-generation broadcasting network."

"We are very excited with the success at Panyu Cable. JetNet will continue to invest and develop advanced networking products based on Entropic's technology, and we look forward to achieving greater success in the China EoC market in near future," said David Zhu, CEO of ShenZhen JetNet.

"We are proud to have been selected by Panyu Cable as the technology of choice for their deployment of an EoC solution for delivering high-bandwidth VoD and other new services to their subscribers," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president marketing and business development, Entropic Communications. "This deployment is another milestone in setting the standard for operators to increase ARPU while delivering next-generation broadband systems for subscribers throughout China."

About Entropic's EoC

Entropic's Broadband Access solution leverages its highly successful and field-proven silicon, based on the MoCA standard, which enables a full mesh home network to be formed using existing coax cables and splitters, and is comprised of its EN3011 Access Network Controller and the EN3230 Access Client silicon. The Broadband Access solution uses this technology for point to multipoint networks. A single Broadband Access solution provides over 250 Mbps of raw data bandwidth yielding over 100 Mbps of application throughput and was designed as a low-cost, easy-to-deploy solution using the existing coaxial cable infrastructure already found in MDUs and single family housing (SFUs).

The system is scalable with a single network controller supporting up to 63 clients, with rate control available on a per client basis. By operating above the regular CATV signals and providing frequency agility between 800 MHz and 1500 MHz, additional network controllers can be added to support even more clients to the network. In addition, delivering operator-class robustness and unmatched bandwidth over the longest reach, Entropic's Broadband Access solution is the performance benchmark for delivering high bandwidth applications such as multiple streams of high definition (HD) video, premium broadband data access tiers, IPTV, and two-way interactive applications.

Availability

Entropic Access ICs, software and reference designs using the EN3011 and EN3230 are available today. The ShenZhen JetNet EoC solution is currently available with the NC-Q650 Network Controller and EP-2051 and EP-2052 Client CPE's.
