ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., March 25, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Whether they are building towers made of paper or viewing their classmates through an infrared camera, elementary, middle and high school students throughout the Chicagoland area will be learning first-hand about engineering-related careers this spring from teams of engineers at Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) through the Discover "E" (E stands for engineering) program.

This year, over 50 volunteer engineers from the company's Electronic Systems sector's Rolling Meadows facility will be visiting more than 35 local schools in Rolling Meadows and the surrounding counties to share their engineering experiences, discuss potential careers in engineering and involve the students in hands-on, science-related classroom projects and activities. Each school visited will receive a $500 check from Northrop Grumman to support math and science-related programs and activities.

"The students got so much out of John's presentation, had lots of fun with the infrared camera and did an awesome job with the paper tower activity. I know that several students – if not more –became much more aware and interested in engineering. John is an incredible ambassador for Northrop Grumman and for the engineering field."

The National Society of Professional Engineers introduced Discover "E" many years ago as part of an outreach effort aimed to foster student interest in engineering. Northrop Grumman has been a major sponsor of Discover "E" in the Chicagoland area for the past 12 years in an effort to help address a critical national need to identify, cultivate and motive the engineers of tomorrow.
