Enterasys Delivers Built-In Network Automation With B-Series and C-Series Stackable Switches

New Enhancements Significantly Reduce Operational Costs While Comprehensive Lifetime Warranty Eliminates Costly Service Contract Fees

ANDOVER, MA--(Marketwire - April 12, 2010) -  Enterasys, the network infrastructure and security division of Siemens Enterprise Communications GmbH & Co KG, today announced the Enterasys B5 and C5 switches, the newest additions to its high-performance A/B/C-Series stackable switch line. The new switches contain embedded management automation features that help to reduce IT operational costs, while also providing IEEE 802.3at compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to support power-hungry and bandwidth-intensive business applications.

Enterasys B5 and C5 stackable switches provide IT organizations with a cost-effective and powerful alternative to configuring cumbersome Access Control Lists (ACLs). Enterasys leverages multiple standards-based discovery methods along with unique policy capabilities to provide automated identification and provisioning of VoIP services and clients and intelligent traffic management for IP phones from all major vendors. When an IP phone is relocated, Enterasys B5 and C5 switches automatically identify and provision VoIP services so security and traffic priority settings move with it -- with none of the manual administration required with ACL-based switches.

"In order for organizations to fully realize the cost savings associated with new technologies such as unified communications and the fully virtualized data center, IT administrators need network automation capabilities so that they spend less time managing and troubleshooting the network, and more time focusing on business initiatives," said Steven J. Schuchart Jr., Principal Analyst, Current Analysis. "The Enterasys B5 and C5 switches build on the company's long history of policy-based automation capabilities that lower the operational costs of running a network."

The new automated switch features allow customers to transform the IT management ratio -- with customers realizing greater than 50 percent reduction in network management time. This translates into considerable time-efficiency, saving over half a work year per IT administrator, which now can be put toward strategic application planning.

"We have had a very productive relationship with Enterasys, whose equipment has allowed us to easily manage a network of over 1,000 devices with only a three person operations team, for over 15 years," said Cavelle Grimes, Director of Computing Services for the University of Florida Foundation. "The new B5 and C5 switches are yet another example of an innovation from Enterasys that will help us lower operational costs, while providing future-proofed features such as high-power PoE, 10 Gigabit through SPF+, and capabilities to ease cloud computing deployments, while allowing us granular control over our network."

Similar to the Terabit-class S-Series, the Enterasys B5 and C5 switches support IEEE 802.3at compliant high-power PoE. Industry-leading power density is achieved with support for 30 watts per port in a 48 port switch, translating into a future-proofed solution that can support power-hungry devices such as Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) IP surveillance cameras, IP videophones, third-party 802.11n access points and virtual desktops.

Enterasys B-Series and C-Series customers will realize significant operational savings with the included comprehensive lifetime warranty. Unlike other vendors, the warranty on these products includes lifetime software feature upgrades, regardless of the license type, lifetime 8x5 phone support and more. Consider, for example, a customer deploying 150 switches. In partnering with Enterasys, the customer would save upwards of $1 million in service contract fees in the first 5 years.

Grimes added, "The automated discovery and configuration features of the B5/C5 platform will fit seamlessly into our existing policy-based network, allowing us to take advantage of its additional functionality while reducing the overall network TCO. Add to that the comprehensive lifetime warranty and superior customer support we receive from Enterasys and we have a partner that is ready and willing to go the extra mile as we continually evolve our network."

The Enterasys B5 and C5 switches, available in Q2 2010, will be on display at the Interop 2010 show in Las Vegas from April 25-29.
