Boise Cascade Alljoist Engineered Wood Product Line Now Available FSC-Certified

BOISE, Idaho, April 19, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Boise Cascade, L.L.C., headquartered in Boise, Idaho, has announced the immediate availability of FSC® Chain-of-Custody certified ALLJOIST® products throughout Eastern U.S. and Canadian markets. Boise Cascade Alljoist engineered wood products can be ordered FSC-certified in all four Alljoist profiles including the new deep joist AJS® 30 products introduced earlier this year. The availability of FSC-certified Alljoist products means these products can now help builders achieve LEED® points under U.S. Green Building Council® residential and commercial green building programs including LEED for Homes and LEED for New Construction.

Chain-of-Custody (COC) is the path taken by raw materials harvested from FSC-certified sources through processing, manufacturing and distribution until it is a final product ready for sale to the end consumer. COC certification allows companies that manufacture and market forest products to label them with the FSC brand consistent with Forest Stewardship Council® policies. The FSC COC standard: Ensures FSC-certified wood is accounted for as it passes along the supply chain; ensures that when FSC-certified wood is mixed with other wood, the non FSC-certified wood does not come from controversial sources -- illegally harvested wood, wood harvested in violation of civil rights, wood harvested from forests in which high conservation values are threatened by management activities, wood harvested from areas being converted from forests to plantations or non-forest uses, or wood from forests in which genetically-modified trees are planted.

Boise Cascade Alljoist® series engineered wood products are sustainable products that are approximately 35% stronger than dimension lumber joists, while using about 35% less wood fiber – so fewer trees are cut. Alljoist products are also lighter in weight, less expensive to ship, easier to handle and faster to install than dimension lumber joists. Alljoists help keep floors flat and homes square, and make finish work go faster, with fewer problems.

Alljoists have solid-sawn flanges made from black spruce, a denser and stronger wood than traditional species. Alljoist products are available in four different profiles: AJS® 140 with 1-1/2" deep, 2-1/2" wide machine stress-rated flanges in both 9-1/2" and 11-7/8" depths; AJS 20, also with 2-1/2" wide flanges in depths of 9-1/2", 11-7/8", 14" and 16"; AJS 25 with 3-1/2" wide flanges in 9-1/2", 11-7/8", 14" and 16" depths; and the new AJS 30 deep joists with 3-1/2" wide flanges in 18", 20", 22" or 24" depths. This means Alljoist products are now available in approximately 2" increments from 9-1/2" up to 24", for virtually any residential use and many multi-family and light commercial applications.

In addition to the FSC® certification, Alljoists are NAHB Research Center Green Approved (NAHBGA certificate no. 00081), enabling builders to obtain green building points through the National Green Building Standard. Alljoists are also SFI®-certified green products, with all wood fiber purchased in compliance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®, and can be ordered SFI Chain-of-Custody certified.
