The ash cloud above southern Finland continues to disrupt Finnair's traffic. The disruptions may continue tomorrow. Finnair's priorities are safety and to bring its customers home as quickly as possible. "We understand that many of our customers are in a difficult situation, so we are trying to fly as much as possible to bring our customers safely and quickly home," says Finnair's President & CEO Mika Vehviläinen. Today Finnair has managed to fly five long-haul flights arriving in Finland from New York, Bangkok, Delhi, Seoul and Hong Kong as well as charter flights carrying Aurinkomatkat-Suntours passengers from Spain and Turkey. Around 900 passengers arrived or will arrive on the long-haul flights and around 1,500 leisure passengers on the charter flights. Finnair additionally aims to fly from Finland to New York and Bangkok this evening. "The situation is difficult and unfortunately it will in many respects become worse as traffic resumes, because by a ruling of the Court of Appeal we have to take on to flights first and foremost those who have valid tickets for the flights in question. Only after that can we fill aircraft with passengers who have had to wait," continues Vehviläinen. "Forecasts indicate that the ash cloud above southern Finland may continue to adversely affect our traffic significantly tomorrow," says Finnair's SVP Operations Erno Hildén.
