Hamburg, May 12, 2010 - UMS United Medical Systems International AG (UMS/
ISIN DE0005493654) generated after-tax earnings of EUR0.8 million in the
first quarter of 2010, after also generating EUR0.8 million in the same
period last year. Earnings per share amounted to EUR0.15, up from EUR0.14
in the first quarter of 2009.

Thus, the earnings per share improved, while revenues fell slightly, by 7%
from EUR9.6 million last year to EUR8.9 million in the first quarter of
2010. However, the decrease in revenues was only 3% at constant exchange
rates. EBIT fell from EUR3.1 million in the previous year to EUR2.8 million
in the first quarter of 2010. This decrease was primarily attributable to
the Gynecology segment. As a result of the continuing weakness of the U.S.
labor market, the average number of stereotactic breast biopsies per day
was down by around 5% from the previous year.

UMS AG expects business to pick up in the coming months. The number of new
contracts in the first three months of the current fiscal year was
significantly higher in all business segments than in the previous year.
The Company also expects positive momentum from the sale of new service
products and the expected turnaround on the U.S. labor market.

Given this situation, UMS AG confirms its earnings target of EUR0.55 to
EUR0.65 per share for the current fiscal year 2010.
