IonSense Introduces the 3+D MicroPlate-96 Screening Plate; Will Be Presented at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry Annual Conference

Enables Fast Testing for Food Safety and Pharmaceutical Development

SAUGUS, MA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2010) -  IonSense, Inc. today introduced the 3+D MicroPlate-96 Screening Plate to accelerate the rapid screening of samples for food safety, pharmaceutical process development, and surface contamination. The new Plate combines high speed chemical analysis by Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART®) mass spectrometry with standard laboratory automation, and is designed for use with the DART 3+D Scanner, introduced at Pittcon 2010. The product will be presented at the upcoming ASMS Conference in Salt Lake City May 23rd through the 27th

This new platform facilitates the integration of IonSense technology into the work flow of testing and development laboratories. The new Plate provides an independent desorption ionization region for each of the 96-locations on the standard microtiter format plate. The programmable system can function as a high throughput screening system in rapid analysis mode, or provide more quantitative results using longer exposure periods.

"We wanted to address the increasing demand to speed up the initial screening of samples, and then enable rapid method development based on those screening results," according to Brian Musselman, IonSense President and CEO. "Our customers in pharmaceutical development, food safety analysis, and product testing have asked us to take the next step in automation, and we believe the speed and simplicity of the 3+D MicroPlate-96 Screening Plate with the 3+D Scanner will deliver it."

The company will also host its annual DART Users Forum on Saturday, May 22nd at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, UT. Industry experts and academic leaders will present results from a diverse range of applications including counterfeit drug screening, metabolomics, homeland security, and pharmaceutical development. Registration and the Agenda can be seen at ionsense.eventbrite.com

Additionally at the Conference presentations from companies such as Sanofi-Aventis, Takeda, and Millennium, government agencies such as AIST, FDA, and MRC (UK), and numerous academic institutions will demonstrate the application of DART mass spectrometry to problems in many areas such as:

  • Feasibility of Ovarian Cancer Detection
  • Pharmaceutical Analysis by Infrared-Laser DART
  • Rapid Analysis of the Proverbial "White Powders"
  • Chemical Agent Monitoring
  • Analysis of Dried Blood Spots
  • Inexpensive Screening for Smoked Drugs
  • Fast lipid profiling of human breast milk

IonSense will also present the new 3+D MicroPlate-96 Screening Plate and DART 3+D Scanner at the Exhibition being held during the conference. The company will be at Booth number 50.
