Covisint, a Compuware Company, Helps Thumb Rural Health Network Increase Patient Transfers by 300 Percent in First Year

Dramatic Covisint Success is a Cloud-based Model for Others to Replicate

DETROIT, May 24, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Covisint, a Compuware (Nasdaq:CPWR) company, today announced that it has helped improve the efficiency and success rate for patient transfers for Michigan's Thumb Rural Health Network. Covisint's work with TechTime, which leveraged Covisint ExchangeLink, has enabled patient transfers between two Michigan hospitals -- the rural Deckerville Community Hospital and the larger St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron -- to increase by 300 percent.

"Deckerville Community Hospital has always been committed to providing high-quality, cost effective and patient-centered care -- sometimes that means transferring patients to larger hospitals with more resources," said Ed Gamache, CEO of Deckerville Community Hospital and Harbor Beach Community Hospital. "Covisint and TechTime have helped us dramatically improve care delivery on many levels through the secure transfer of patient records."

Traditionally, hospitals have not always been able to efficiently and effectively transfer patient data. This has been particularly true when smaller, more rural hospitals transfer patients to larger hospitals. In Deckerville Community Hospital's case, when it previously transferred patients to St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron, Deckerville staffers would literally compile the patient's paper-based files and then place the files on the chest of the patient during the ambulance ride to the larger hospital.

Now, with Covisint, Deckerville transfers the patient's file electronically and ahead of the patient's arrival at St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron. This enables St. Joseph Mercy medical teams to better prepare while also eliminating the risks associated with the unsecure, inefficient and problematic transfer methods previously used.

"The Deckerville-Port Huron example -- leveraging technology to improve care delivery and efficiency -- is a great model that's replicable and scalable to fit any size or situation," said Brett Furst, Covisint Vice President of Healthcare. "Covisint's work with TechTime embodies technology's ability to make a real difference in people's lives."

The Covisint solution is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) ecosystem providing a one-stop choice for healthcare organizations and caregivers to securely access applications and exchange information across the entire care delivery system. Covisint ExchangeLink already serves more than 1,100 healthcare organizations nationally -- representing more than 290,000 physicians and care providers, including entire states, health information exchanges (HIEs), Medicaid programs, health systems and hospitals, as well as health plans.
