(Pink Sheets:MCII), a North American manufacturer of an extensive line of eco-safe products for the marine industry, today announced that the Deepwater Horizon Dispersant Use Meeting Report issued on June 4, 2010, by Coastal Response Research Center, University of New Hampshire, has found dispersants environmentally helpful in minimizing the amount of oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill reaching national shorelines.
The scientific review meeting was held at the request of NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and attended by over 50 scientists, engineers and spill response practitioners from NOAA, the Environmental Protection Agency, Environment Canada, the Coast Guards from United States and Canada, and several universities. The published report recognized the role of dispersants in battling and mitigating the environmental catastrophe occurring in the Gulf of Mexico. The report stated: "It is the consensus of this group that up to this point, use of dispersants and the effects of dispersing oil into the water column has generally been less environmentally harmful than allowing the oil to migrate on the surface into the sensitive wetlands and near shore coastal habitats." It further stated, "Continued dispersant use reduces the threat distance, protects shorelines, likely increases the biodegradation rate of the oil, inhibits formation of emulsions, reduces waste management, and potentially reduces buildup of VOCs [volatile organic compounds] in the air."
