Athletes to Compete on Mondotrack During 2010 U.S. Paralympics Track and Field National Championships

MIRAMAR, Fla., June 17, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Once again, Mondotrack, the surface of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, will serve as the track for a high-profile competition. This time, it's the 2010 U.S. Paralympics Track and Field National Championships, June 18–20, at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Fla.

More than 200 athletes with physical disabilities from five countries are expected to compete for their respective teams. The competition will serve as the selection meet for the U.S. team that competes in the 2011 International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, in January 2011.

"We anticipate some great performances by our Paralympic athletes in Miramar at the 2010 U.S. Paralympics Track and Field National Championships," said Charlie Huebner, chief of Paralympics, USOC. "The Mondo surface is outstanding, and it gives our athletes an opportunity to pursue world-class times."

The $16 million Ansin Sports Complex is part of a 24-acre, state-of-the-art athletic park that opened in February 2009. The 5,000-seat stadium was built specifically to help position Miramar as an international track and field destination. Its focal point is a 400 meter Mondotrack. The IAAF-certified track – one of only a few in the country to have this designation – features an eight-lane oval (nine-lane straightaway) and unique aspects that include international start lines and a black finish line that improves the readability of photo finish images.

Mondotrack, Mondo's newest track, was designed to provide optimal traction and a greater contact area than other tracks. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes' foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return, which helps athletes achieve faster times compared to running on other surfaces. Mondotrack also provides excellent athletic comfort and maximum safety with the optimum blend of speed and comfort to accommodate both high competition and training venues. It will be the official track of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Mondo's line of tracks also includes its world-renowned Super X Performance track. More than 230 world records have been set on Mondo tracks, including five at the 2008 Olympics.
