Mark H. Jackson Named Chairman of Literacy Partners

Dow Jones General Counsel Succeeds Peter Brown

NEW YORK, June 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mark H. Jackson, general counsel for Dow Jones & Company, was elected chairman of the board of directors for Literacy Partners, Inc.

Literacy Partners offers classes to teach adults the basic literacy skills essential to lead full lives as individuals, parents and citizens. Mr. Jackson will spearhead efforts to develop the organization's new strategic plan, guide its finance committee and continue advocating on behalf of the 3.7 million adult New Yorkers who cannot read or write above the 5th grade level.

"Literacy Partners is fortunate to have Mark Jackson in this important leadership role," said Susan McLean, executive director. "We are delighted that Mark will be leading our organization to even greater achievements and recruiting new participants to the Literacy Partners family."

Mr. Jackson succeeds Peter Brown, whose leadership over many years engendered a strong, committed presence for Literacy Partners in New York City. In his new role as chairman of New York's only nationally accredited adult literacy program, Mr. Jackson will focus on heightening awareness of the important work of Literacy Partners.

"Dow Jones and Literacy Partners share a common purpose to use the written word to educate and enrich our society," Mr. Jackson said. "Whether helping one individual to read or another to understand and learn, this is a vital mission, one I am eager to undertake."

The chief legal officer for Dow Jones, Mr. Jackson joined the company in 2007 as executive vice president and general counsel from HarperCollins Publishers where he had been associate general counsel. Prior to HarperCollins, he was a partner in the litigation department of the Manhattan law firm of Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Sheinfeld.
