HERNDON, Va., June 28, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In anticipation of a possible work stoppage at the Hagerstown Maintenance and Modification Center in Hagerstown, Md., Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications (WARN) to 59 employees at the facility.
The WARN Act requires companies to provide advance notice to employees in the event of potential large layoffs. Northrop Grumman is issuing the WARN notice as a result of an anticipated delay in the award of a government contract.
"This is not unusual for government contracts, but it is unfortunate for our valued employees at Hagerstown as, without this additional work, we've had to make the difficult decision to issue this notice," said David Tracy, Northrop Grumman Technical Services Hagerstown site director. "The tremendous capabilities we've developed at Hagerstown are ones that we do not intend to lose; our intent, in the event of a plant closure, is to continue to provide our customers with these same capabilities at other Northrop Grumman locations around the country."
