SALT LAKE CITY, July 12, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced the winners of its second annual Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars program in the greater Salt Lake City community, which awards two $10,000 college scholarships to local high-school students planning to pursue a career in engineering.

Melanie Easter from Alta High School and Kristie Stoneman from Spanish Fork High School both received the merit-based scholarship for their exceptional academic achievements and community involvement. The pair was honored during an awards luncheon in July at Northrop Grumman's local Navigation Systems Division facility.
This fall, Easter will study mechanical engineering at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, while Stoneman will study chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.

The scholarship program is aimed at supporting promising high school seniors who intend to pursue a career in an engineering-related field. Candidates must plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering curriculum. The funds can be used for tuition, books, lodging and meals.
A committee of Northrop Grumman employees selected the Engineering Scholars winners. To be eligible, each scholarship applicant had to be a resident of Davis, Salt Lake, Weber or Utah counties and a graduating senior this spring from an accredited high school in the sponsoring area. Applicants also had to meet minimum SAT/ACT and GPA requirements. The committee also takes into consideration work experience, community involvement and extracurricular activities.
