Progressive Insulation Teams With City of Santa Monica and Pacific Cove Development on LEED/GreenPoint Project

CHATSWORTH, Calif., July 21, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Chatsworth based Progressive Insulation & Windows in cooperation with the city of Santa Monica will give an Insulation Technique Workshop on site at 853 21st Street in Santa Monica, Wednesday, July 21, 2010. This event will be attended by approximately 50 builders, architects, government building officials and others interested in the dual-rated town home project.

The builder, Pacific Cove Development, is seeking to meet both GreenPoint Rated and LEED for Homes Registered qualifications. Two products new to the marketplace that will be used in light of the high standard set are Knauf EcoBatt and Knauf EcoSeal.

The training demonstrated the fundamentals of insulation installation and specified what goes into a HERS verified insulation job - a prerequisite for Energystar homes and for LEED Homes. The multifamily job site in Santa Monica is one of the first in the region to pursue the dual certification under LEED Homes and GreenPoint Rated.

During the last 32 years at Progressive Insulation & Windows, Steve Anderson, President, has been frequently asked the question, "What is the best insulation?" His common answer is, "The best insulation is properly installed insulation." Putting the product in as a professional makes it perform. Even high performance products like Knauf EcoSeal need to be handled correctly and with an understanding of the building science behind the air seal procedure.

Pacific Cove Development, Inc. (PCD) is a builder/developer of multifamily, single family homes and commercial properties throughout Southern California. PCD, which is a member of the Los Angeles/Ventura Building Industry Association (BIA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), takes pride in building smart and sustainable projects.

The City of Santa Monica has a commitment to protecting the environment, improving quality of life, and promoting sustainability. In order to fulfill this commitment, the City has established performance standards the new construction projects must meet.  Beyond these requirements, the City also provides information about best practices to reduce environmental impacts associated with buildings.

The Sustainable Building Advisor Program is a national program distributed by the National Sustainable Building Advisor Program (NaSBAP) and hosted by Santa Monica College. The 9-month certificate training course and exam are specifically designed for working professionals eager to apply sustainable concepts to the buildings and communities they design, develop, and construct.
