Immunomedics and GE Healthcare in Research Collaboration

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. and CHALFONT ST. GILES, UK, Aug. 18, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Immunomedics, Inc. (Nasdaq:IMMU) and GE Healthcare, a business unit of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), announced today that they have entered into a license and collaboration agreement for the evaluation of labeling technologies based on Immunomedics' patented F-18 peptide labeling method. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but GE Healthcare will fund all costs related to this collaboration.

"As reported at the recent annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, we have developed a facile and rapid method to label peptides with fluorine-18 (F-18), a radionuclide used in positron-emission imaging," stated Cynthia L. Sullivan, President and CEO of Immunomedics, Inc. "We look forward to GE Healthcare's collaboration with us," added Ms. Sullivan.

About F-18 Peptide Labeling Method

A rapid, stable, and efficient way of labeling peptides with F-18 was developed by scientists at Immunomedics, Inc., by first conjugating the radioisotope with aluminum. This is the first method of binding F-18 to peptides via an aluminum conjugate. F-18 labeled peptides have been shown to be stable enough to produce quality PET images of receptor-expressing tumors in animals and in pretargeting studies using a human colorectal cancer model. The novel F-18 labeling method is now protected by 2 patents in the United States, and under prosecution in major world markets.

About Immunomedics

Immunomedics is a New Jersey-based biopharmaceutical company primarily focused on the development of monoclonal, antibody-based products for the targeted treatment of cancer, autoimmune and other serious diseases. We have developed a number of advanced proprietary technologies that allow us to create humanized antibodies that can be used either alone in unlabeled or "naked" form, or conjugated with radioactive isotopes, chemotherapeutics or toxins, in each case to create highly targeted agents. Using these technologies, we have built a pipeline of therapeutic product candidates that utilize several different mechanisms of action. We also have a majority ownership in IBC Pharmaceuticals, Inc., which is developing a novel Dock-and-Lock (DNL) methodology with us for making fusion proteins and multifunctional antibodies, and a new method of delivering imaging and therapeutic agents selectively to disease, especially different solid cancers (colorectal, lung, pancreas, etc.), by proprietary, antibody-based, pretargeting methods. We believe that our portfolio of intellectual property, which includes approximately 150 patents issued in the United States and more than 375 other patents issued worldwide, protects our product candidates and technologies. For additional information on us, please visit our website at www.immunomedics.com. The information on our website does not, however, form a part of this press release.
