Ecosphere Technologies Announces Positive Results of Scale Testing on Woodford Shale and Fayetteville Shale Produced Waters

Ecosphere Receives Third Ozonix Patent in 2010

STUART, Fla., Aug. 23, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ecosphere Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:ESPH), a diversified water engineering and environmental services company, announces that its majority owned subsidiary, Ecosphere Energy Services, LLC (EES), completed tests on its Ecosphere Ozonix technology to treat produced waters and eliminate scaling. The tests confirm that the produced water treated by the Company's chemical free process eliminates scaling in 10,000 and 150,000 parts per million (ppm) TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) produced waters. The tests included raw and untreated 150,000 ppm TDS produced fluid from the Woodford Shale and raw and untreated 10,000 ppm flowback fluid from the Fayetteville shale.

The untreated produced water samples scaled while the samples treated by the Ozonix process did not. The dynamic tube blocking tests were conducted by Weatherford Labs in Houston, Texas to determine the effect the Ozonix process has on scaling, a major problem faced by the energy exploration companies. Energy companies presently use liquid chemical scale inhibitors during the fracturing of the well to keep scale from building up in the piping system. The results of these recent tests confirm that the Ecosphere Ozonix process to eliminate scaling can now replace liquid chemical scale inhibitors. Energy companies that are interested in reducing their environmental footprint have already begun using the Ecosphere Ozonix process. Click the following link to learn more about the test results:

Robbie Cathey, COO of EES stated, "Ecosphere has treated more than 7,000,000 barrels (294 million gallons) of water used in natural gas exploration over the past year.  We have recycled production waters for more than 100 wells, allowing the energy operating companies to reuse an environmental resource and save costs.  Our recent efforts are proving that our product is not only an environmentally friendly and cost effective water management solution, but can help treat a well more efficiently without the use of chemicals."

John Ely, President and CEO of Ely & Associates and a consultant to Ecosphere said, "The combined advantages of removing virtually all chemicals from water fracs including biocide, scale inhibitor, and corrosion inhibitor as well as requiring much less friction reducer, makes the Ecos Frac and EcosBrine processes an environmental and cost effective solution to the criticism energy companies face from citizen and environmental groups concerned with protecting water resources. I will recommend this process to our customers."

Ely & Associates supervised more than 4,000 frac treatments in 2009. Ely designs hundreds of frac treatments yearly and has been deeply involved in virtually every shale play in the U.S. and has a specialized design process for water fracs.

Ecosphere also announced that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent # 7,785,470 for another Ozonix patent to treat industrial wastewaters and potable waters. It is the third patent the Company has received this year on its Ecosphere Ozonix technology. The inventors of Ecosphere's new Ozonix patent are Company Founder and CEO, Dennis McGuire and Sanjeev Jakhete, Sr. V.P. of Engineering, who assigned their rights to Ecosphere.
