NAAMA Stages Walk for Women's Cancer Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Detroit Zoo

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Sept. 10, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA), in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, will stage its 6th Walk for Women's Cancer at the Detroit Zoo on Sunday, October 3, 2010.

Stepping up to support the Walk thus far are Wayne State University Department of Pathology as Gold Sponsor; Henry Ford Health System as Silver Sponsor, ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services), Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center, Oakwood Healthcare System and Wayne State University Medical School as Bronze Sponsors; Detroit Medical Center, Feles & Associates, iKonic Web Development and Web Hosting, Wayne County Four Star Health and Wayne State University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Crystal Sponsors; and the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and Regency Court Reporting as Underwriters.

The purpose of this Walk is to increase awareness of the many types of cancers that affect women, how to minimize cancer risk and increase screenings. The American Cancer Society will provide information in English, Arabic and other languages at the Walk. Walkers will also receive information about resources available for screening and other services in the community.

Dr. Hassan Fehmi, head of the Walk steering committee, said, "We are grateful to all our sponsors for believing in our mission to educate the American public and the Arab American community about women's cancers, particularly gynecological and uterine cancers, and the risk factors that impact women's health."

For the nominal fee of $15 per adult and $10 for seniors and kids up to age 12, walkers can participate in the one-mile, non-competitive walk and stay to enjoy the Detroit Zoo. NAAMA is providing opportunities for corporate and organizational sponsors who wish to reach the Arab American and the women's market.
