In the middle of June 2010, JSC „Rīgas kuģu bīvētava” started to build the third of Coast guard patrol vessel for Latvian Naval Forces Flotilla - „Viesīte”. It is the first one out of five patrol vessel ordered by Ministry of Defence, and it will be entirely built in Latvia. It is foreseen, that by the end of September or in the beginning of October the Wedge of the patrol vessel will be finished. The hull must be completed in January 2011. The works will continuo till delivery of the vessel finished, what has to be done in August 2012. The construction works are performed in accordance with the contract of patrol vessel supply, concluded on December 21` 2007. In general, the contract is on five patrol vessel construction, what will provide successful performance of Latvian Naval Forces flotilla, as well as aggravation and ability improvement. The patrol vessels have been the names given: “Skrunda”, “Cēsis”, “Viesīte”, “Jelgava” and “Rēzekne”. The first patrol vessel “Skrunda” was started to built in September of 2009, in Germany, and it is planned to release for Latvia in April of 2011. The second patrol vessel “Cēsis” was started to build in Germany in the end of May 2010. The term of issuance is February 2012, but the patrol vessel “Viesīte”, which is being built in Latvia, will be done by August of 2012. One patrol vessel for Latvian Navy costs EUR 11 million (7,7 million LVL). The width of vessel will be 13 meters; the length is going to be 25 meters, draft of ship - 2, 7 meter, speed - 20 knots, the engine capacity - 1600 kilowatts, the material - aluminium.
