Excellence in Investing: San Francisco Conference Opens Bidding for Charity Auction of First Edition of The Intelligent Investor, Signed and Inscribed by Warren Buffett

Funds Raised From Book's Sale to Support Students From Low-Income Areas and Other Education, Children's Causes

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 16, 2010) -  The Excellence in Investing for Children's Causes Foundation today opened bidding online for the auction of a rare first edition of Benjamin Graham's classic investment book The Intelligent Investor, signed by renowned investor Warren Buffett, who will add a personal inscription for the winning bidder. The foundation is currently accepting bids on the item at http://www.irasohnsanfrancisco.com/auction.html. The auction will conclude live at the upcoming 1st Annual Excellence in Investing: San Francisco conference, to take place October 6, 2010 at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre, part of the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center.

The Intelligent Investor, first published in 1949, is widely considered one of the most influential books in financial history and the definitive text on value investing, the stock-picking approach made legendary by such notable investors as Graham, Buffett, and David Dodd. Multiple reprints and editions of the book have been published following its first print run. The first-edition copy offered for auction by the Excellence in Investing: San Francisco conference is listed in excellent condition and estimated to be worth $25,000 even before Buffett's signature and personal inscription.

"A first edition of The Intelligent Investor is truly a must-have for serious investment professionals," said Patrick Wolff, co-founder of the Excellence in Investing: San Francisco conference. "Warren Buffett has said this is the only copy of the book he remembers signing, making this item that much more valuable for its eventual owner. We're grateful for his support of the outstanding children's organizations that will benefit from this auction."

All funds raised from the book's sale will profit the education and other children's causes supported by the Excellence in Investing: San Francisco conference, formed earlier this year in partnership between the Excellence in Investing for Children's Causes Foundation and the Ira Sohn Research Conference Foundation. Among the primary beneficiaries from the San Francisco event will be Leadership Public Schools, which prepares children from low-income urban neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay Area to thrive in college and assist their local communities. A portion of the event's proceeds will also be donated to the organizations supported by the Ira Sohn Research Conference Foundation, which include groups dedicated to the care and treatment of children with pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. In addition, the conference is being held in partnership with The Guardsmen, an all-volunteer group of Bay Area men working to improve the lives of at-risk local youth, and a portion of the event's proceeds will be donated to The Guardsmen Scholarship Program, which supports low-income students in grades K-6.
