Telvent DTN Earns Top Ranking in Independent Weather Service Study for Fourth Straight Year

ForecastWatch.com Study Finds That Telvent's Precipitation Forecasts Outperform All Others in the Industry

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 13, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that its weather service was ranked first in a report compiled by ForecastWatch.com measuring probability of precipitation (POP) forecasts. The study used the Brier Score, which ranks both accuracy and resolution, to compare five major weather service providers' one-day-out POP forecasts. Telvent received the top score from POP forecasts collected from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. Additionally, it received the top score for winter precipitation forecasts that were provided December 2009 through February 2010.

ForecastWatch.com evaluated POP forecasts at nearly 800 locations across the United States each day, comparing them to observations measured by the National Weather Service and the Federal Aviation Administration. There were a total of five weather forecast providers that were examined in the study, including the National Weather Service and Weather.com. This was the fourth year Telvent participated in the study and has received the top accuracy score each year.

Receiving accurate precipitation forecasts is important to professionals in many different industries including agriculture, transportation, energy, aviation, public safety and sports and recreation. Correct precipitation forecasts increase safety and save money in many ways, from more precise crew callouts and effective pavement treatment for winter road maintenance to improved scheduling of concrete pours and other construction work.

"Various organizations across the U.S. rely on Telvent DTN to make business-critical decisions each day, and for the fourth consecutive year, this study has proven that we are the weather industry leader," said Ignacio Gonzalez, Telvent CEO. "Our experienced meteorological team deserves this honor for its dedication to providing the most accurate precipitation forecasts available to our clients."

Telvent DTN specializes in providing customers real-time weather information that assists them in making critical business decisions to help protect people, property and assets, to maintain safe working conditions, and to save on unnecessary costs. In addition to providing the industry's most accurate precipitation forecasts, a 2009 study found Telvent DTN to be the most accurate provider of day one and day two temperature forecasts, which help energy companies produce accurate load forecasts, make better power marketing decisions and restore power faster. This allows utilities and cooperatives to improve revenue and reliability, while decreasing service interruptions.
