Volicon Introduces Cost Effective Video Monitoring With Observer Scout

New Audio/Video Content Monitoring Tool Eliminates Cost of Chronic Network Troubleshooting

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - October 19, 2010) -  Volicon, a provider of multichannel video content logging and monitoring systems for broadcast, cable and IPTV operators, today announced the launch of the Volicon Observer® Scout. The Scout is a cost-effective yet powerful video assurance network monitoring device that enables broadcasters, cable and IPTV operators to perform content-based, proactive monitoring and quality checks at audio/video (A/V) service handoffs. Boasting key functionality taken from Volicon's award-winning Observer and Observer RPM products, the Observer Scout provides an affordable solution for quality-of-experience (QoE)-based content monitoring, logging, and remote viewing of A/V services, eliminating costs associated with chronic network troubleshooting.

Before Observer Scout, many operators were forced to deploy consumer-grade remote video troubleshooting solutions that left them limited by the lack of features, reliability and management capabilities. The Observer Scout is the industry's first affordable, industrial-grade content monitoring and logging solution offering the ability to log up to three days of SD or HD content. Observer Scout facilitates remote viewing of recorded video and supports real-time troubleshooting for A/V feeds, enabling video operators to quickly troubleshoot transmission events that disrupt the viewer Quality of Experience (QoE). Broadcasters and cable network operators can use the system for continuous video monitoring at ingress points, or for monitoring of content for handoff to pay-TV services. Cable and IPTV operators can leverage the Observer Scout to monitor content at the point of ingress from local broadcasters, as well as for post-STB monitoring at the network edge with continuous channel scanning. Equipped with solid-state storage, the Observer Scout provides the high performance necessary for reliable edge deployment -- at a price point that enables large-scale deployment.

"In many instances, operators can troubleshoot video faults and significantly elevate their QoE just by monitoring their services at key handoffs, or at the edge of the network. The Observer Scout provides this capability in a package that is much more robust and far less costly to maintain those of competing monitoring products," said Andrew Sachs, VP of Product Management at Volicon. "The Observer Scout is the only monitoring system in this price range to enable 24/7 video recording of full motion content, as well as provide content capture and export and support for multiple users via Web browser access."

In addition to its base functionality, the Observer Scout includes an optional QoE module for continuous logging of signal faults, a Scheduled Recording option for selective recording of specific broadcast channels within designated time periods, and Volicon's new Elemental Management Services software option, which enables centralized configuration and management of multiple units.

Volicon video QoE experts will be demonstrating Observer Scout, the newest addition to the Observer portfolio, live at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, October 20-22, 2010, show booth #1909 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, LA. To reserve your product briefing time at the show, please contact Mike Asebrook at mike@volicon.com.
