Mondo to Showcase Its GREENGUARD Certified Harmoni Smooth Rubber Flooring at GreenBuild 2010

Antibacterial and Antimicrobial Throughout, the Flooring is Ideal for a Variety of Commercial Applications, Including Healthcare Facilities, Fitness Centers, Churches, Retail Environments, Schools and Light Industrial Installations

CHICAGO, Nov. 16, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mondo, a global leader in the sports and contract flooring markets, at GreenBuild 2010 this week is showcasing Harmoni Smooth, one of its flooring products that has received both GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification and the prestigious GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute.

Harmoni Smooth features a smooth finish that's easy to maintain—it doesn't require stripping or waxing—and is resistant to wear, abrasions and chemicals, including those in most cleaning products. Plus, the slip-resistant surface is comfortable underfoot, significantly reduces foot-traffic noise and can withstand high static and rolling loads, such as tables, chairs and carts.

In addition, Harmoni Smooth helps to create a healthy indoor environment because it's free of toxic components, and it is antibacterial and antimicrobial throughout. The flooring is ideal for a variety of commercial applications, including hospitals and other healthcare facilities, fitness centers, churches, retail environments, schools and light industrial installations. It comes in 3 millimeter and 4 millimeter tiles and rolls, is available in 32 colors with an additional eight available as accent colors, and it is 100 percent recyclable.

"Harmoni Smooth gives architects, designers and contractors a durable, easy-to-maintain, smooth flooring product in a variety of colors to fit a wide range of commercial applications," said Federico Stroppiana, president of Mondo North and South America. "We conduct extensive research to develop high-performance contract flooring that is environmentally friendly and helps create a superior working, learning or healing environment, and the new Harmoni Smooth is a perfect example. And because it's made from rubber, which is sustainable, Harmoni Smooth contributes to LEED initiatives."

The other 12 Mondo rubber flooring products that have received both GREENGUARD certifications are Advance, Geode MD, Highjolt, Mondoflex II, Mondotrack, Natura, Ramflex, Sport Impact, Sportflex, Sportflex M, Super X and Terranova.

GEI's Indoor Air Quality Certification is conferred upon low-emitting interior building materials, furnishings and finish systems that have been tested for indoor pollutant emissions using stringent environmental chamber methods and meet strict requirements for maintaining healthy indoor air in businesses and commercial buildings. Products that are GREENGUARD Certified contribute minimal levels of pollutants to indoor environments.

Products awarded GEI's esteemed Children & Schools Certification have been screened for more than 10,000 different volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, ensuring the fewest possible chemicals are released into the indoor air, a consideration that is particularly important for products intended for use in schools, day-care centers and other environments where children spend significant amounts of time. While poor indoor air quality affects everyone, children are more sensitive than adults to exposure to chemicals in their indoor environments.

A member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Mondo is committed to producing surfaces that do not harm the environment at any stage of the manufacturing process—from the time raw materials are harvested to production to disposal following their useful life, which can be 25 years or more. Its rubber flooring is made of sustainable materials including renewable natural rubber, natural fillers and color pigments that are free of lead and other heavy metals. The company's artificial turf products also are designed to be environmentally friendly, and are made with post-consumer recycled content and recyclable materials.

GREENGUARD Certification is an industry-independent, third-party certification program for low-emitting products and materials. All certified products are listed in the free online GREENGUARD Product Guide along with certificates that detail the criteria these products have met. GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification exceeds the California's Department of Public Health Section 01350, and certified products can contribute to the fulfillment of credit requirements in The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) for K-12 schools, and for LEED certification.
