VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 21, 2011) - Today, the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), confirmed that Canada's winter athletes will be able to continue their pursuit of excellence due to a major funding announcement to various winter sport organizations.
"The Government of Canada recognizes the significant success and efforts of our athletes and coaches and works to ensure that they continue to have the venues and resources needed" said the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport) "This confirmed funding represents an unprecedented level of assistance to national winter-sport organizations and will contribute to making Canada a leading sport nation."
In total, $27,635,204 is being provided to various winter sport organizations through Sport Canada's Sport Support Program. National Sport Organizations (NSOs) included in this announcement are:
