QuickLogic Introduces New Software to Accelerate Integration of VEE/DPO Technology Into the Android Operating System

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - January 26, 2011) -

  • QuickLogic's Mobile Device Display Optimizer (MDDO) software allows system designers to reduce integration time for Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE) and Display Power Optimizer (DPO) technologies into mobile products

  • Speeds time-to-market by providing a standard software platform that substantially improves the native Auto Backlight controls in Android™

QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the leader in low power Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs), today announced the release of its new Mobile Device Display Optimizer (MDDO) software for use in any CSSP-enabled mobile device running the Android operating system. MDDO provides system designers with a proven, out-of-the-box software platform that can easily be integrated into a system design during the product development and integration cycles. This results in quicker time-to-market, while significantly reducing software development risk.

MDDO allows the QuickLogic CSSP to communicate directly with the host system through standard Android APIs to collect system data, such as ambient light and display backlight levels, which is essential for the proper operation of our VEE technology. With the MDDO software, the challenge of designing and verifying these communication paths is removed from the system designer resulting in substantial savings of development time and cost.

In addition to being a communications tool, MDDO can be used as a demonstration, development and calibration tool. The MDDO GUI (Graphical User Interface) gives the system designer complete control over VEE parameters while providing information on ambient light levels, current display backlight, and recommended display backlight based upon the system's Auto Backlight settings. In addition, MDDO can be implemented at the user-level as a replacement for the standard Android Auto Brightness menu, allowing the consumer to directly adjust VEE processing and display brightness.

"QuickLogic's MDDO software provides a vehicle for simplifying CSSP integration into an OEM system," said Paul Karazuba, Senior Product Marketing Manager at QuickLogic. "We can now provide a single software tool that will allow customers to move from initial proof-of-concept to mass production very quickly giving consumers the ability to enjoy the advantages of our VEE and DPO technologies."

About VEE
QuickLogic's VEE technology, based on the iridix algorithm from Apical Ltd, greatly enhances the viewability of mobile displays under challenging viewing conditions such as bright ambient light while dynamically optimizing displayed content to provide the most natural viewing experience for the user. Used in conjunction with the VEE technology, QuickLogic's Display Power Optimizer (DPO) technology has been field-proven to extend system battery life of tablets and smartphones by as much as 36% through reduced display backlight without comprising the viewing experience.
