Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $2.8 Million Order for Satellite Earth Station Equipment for National Public Emergency Response Network

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 5, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., obtained a $2.8 million satellite communications equipment order from an Asian country that will use it to support its National Public Emergency Response network. The order includes a variety of Comtech EF Data satellite earth station equipment including modems, transceivers and converters.

The Asian country's National Public Emergency Response network requires three models of Comtech's bandwidth-efficient, IP-based modems, specifically, the CDM-570L-IP, CDD-564L and the CDD-562L. These modems have advanced IP functionality and can seamlessly co-exist on the same link without impacting the voice quality or delivery of mission critical data. The modems will work in tandem with Comtech EF Data's Vipersat Management System (VMS) which allows for dynamic Single Carrier per Channel (dSCPC) bandwidth management of the space segment.

When integrated with Comtech's modems, the dSCPC technology provides the mechanism to automatically establish the high-speed IP SCPC carrier when a remote in the network has an application to transport over the satellite link. dSCPC resizes the carrier based on the increase or decrease in applications being sent over the link, and it returns the remote to its low utility home state once the application is completed.

In the unfortunate case of a serious disaster or event, the Asian country will utilize the instant connectivity of the Comtech EF Data Vipersat-powered network for the transmission of data, voice and video between hubs, remotes, flyaways and mobile communications vehicles.

Deploying a Vipersat-powered network is the most bandwidth-efficient and economical option for emergency response applications. With dSCPC, only the required bandwidth to support affected locales will be required, while maintaining industry-leading service quality.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., stated, "This order demonstrates the importance of satellite-based communications when a critical need to communicate arises."
