BETHPAGE, N.Y., HOLLYWOOD, Md. and MELBOURNE, Fla., April 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Battle Management and Engagement Systems Division of Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Aerospace Systems sector is taking applications for its 2011 NextGen Engineers Scholarship program. There will be five scholarships awarded.
The program is open to high school seniors living in several communities where the Battle Management and Engagement System division has campuses.
The program offers each winner $10,000 toward a four-year college education -- $2,500 per year over four years. In addition, winners are eligible for a paid summer internship at one of the division's campuses for the three summers of their four years of undergraduate studies. Including salaries, these scholarships could be worth as much as $30,000.
During those internships, each winner has the chance to work on active research and development projects as members of Northrop Grumman engineering teams. On the job, they are mentored by accomplished senior engineers while bringing their own, fresh approaches to projects.

The NextGen Engineers Scholarship Program is open only to high school seniors who live in the following locales:
- Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York (Long Island);
- Brevard County, Fla.; and
- St. Mary's, Charles and Calvert counties in Maryland.
Students in Maryland's St. Mary's, Charles and Calvert counties can apply for the NextGen Engineers Scholarship program and separate scholarships offered by the Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems sector's Engineering Scholars program, which is open to students across Maryland. However, they can only be selected as a winner of one scholarship. The two selection teams will make those determinations. Children of employees also can only receive one Northrop Grumman scholarship.
