KONECRANES TO SUPPLY ADDITIONAL TEN RTG CRANES TO INDONESIA

Konecranes to supply additional ten RTG cranes to Indonesia

In February 2011, Konecranes received a repeat order for ten RTG (rubber tired gantry) cranes from Indonesian state-owned terminal operator PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero), (“Pelindo 1”). The cranes will be delivered to Belawan International Container Terminal, (“BICT”), which is owned by Pelindo 1. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2012. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.

BICT is located in the city of Medan on the west end of the Malacca strait, an excellent location considering the world cargo main routes passing by as well as the huge port of Singapore being at the same strait. BICT is presently further increasing capacity in their terminal and thus investing in new equipment.

“We are very proud to receive this repeat order for additional eco-efficient RTG cranes from BICT,” says Thomas Gylling, responsible for container handling port crane sales in South East Asia. “The cranes will further expand BICT’s existing yard crane fleet and will increase container handling capacity in the terminal. The five Konecranes RTGs that BICT ordered last year are currently being delivered. The recent order will increase the Konecranes RTG population in Indonesia to more than 30 RTGs.”

The ten 8-wheel RTGs can stack six plus one containers high and six containers wide plus truck lane. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tons. The recently ordered RTGs are technically very similar to the previously delivered ones. For example when changing stack, the crane wheels are rotating while they are turning. This feature causes less wear of the rubber tires as well as the container yard compared to traditional solutions, and will as a result enable longer liftetime of the rubber tires as well as the yard surface
