Effort to Increase Youth Global Citizenship Attracts New Support for Global Kids

Global Kids Wins $200,000 in Chase Community Giving


NEW YORK, June 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a year that has seen unprecedented international change, Global Kids has won a unique award that will help further its goal to assist urban youth to understand overseas events and their role as global citizens and community leaders.

Chase Community Giving selected Global Kids in a nationwide competition to receive $200,000 that will allow the non-profit to enhance its mission. Chase's advisory board learned how Global Kids operates successful programs for high school students in New York City and Washington, D.C., that helps them achieve academic excellence, self-actualization and global competency.

Global Kids specifically plans to use the award for the following:

  • Global Gateways: 50 students will take part in an intensive study of global affairs with opportunities for international travel and community service;
  • Climate Justice Activist Project: 360 students will learn how to advocate for better public policy on climate justice issues; and
  • Center for Global Leadership: Hundreds of youth and educators will learn how to develop and use peer education, digital media, youth organizing and curriculum to promote global awareness and advocacy on critical issues.

Earlier in the year Global Kids received $25,000 in a Chase Community Giving online competition which allowed it to advance to this next level.

The Chase Community Giving Advisory Board members are: Kristen Bell, actress; Eva Longoria, actress; Matthew McConaughey, actor; NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson; Elliot Schrage, Vice President of Global Communications, Marketing and Public Policy at Facebook; and JPMorgan Chase Foundation President Kimberly Davis.
