CompuMed to Provide ECG Telemedicine and CardioGramKids Technology and Services to the UMMA Clinic and Flagship LAUSD School Health Center at Fremont High

LOS ANGELES, June 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CompuMed, Inc., (Pink Sheets:CMPD), http://www.compumed.net, a telemedicine and medical informatics company, has entered into an agreement with UMMA Clinic and Los Angeles Unified School District's (LAUSD) Fremont High School Health Center to provide CompuMed's electrocardiogram (ECG) telemedicine and CardioGramKids® technology and services to UMMA Clinic patients and Fremont High School students. Recently, LAUSD took over the day to day management of Fremont High in the first ever such action by LAUSD. The district is committed to transforming Fremont High, LAUSD's third largest high school, into a model school. It selected UMMA Clinic, one of the nation's most respected community clinic organizations, to develop and manage a model school-based health center at Fremont High.

"We are honored and excited to be selected as the first telemedicine provider to UMMA and LAUSD's new flagship clinic and school health center," said Maurizio Vecchione, president and CEO of CompuMed. "We will work closely with these preeminent organizations as they develop the infrastructure and procedures needed to serve their constituencies. It is also valuable to us as we roll out CardioGramKids to communities throughout California and the U.S.," Mr. Vecchione added.

CompuMed will provide UMMA and Fremont High with the company's ECG telemedicine equipment and with over-reads performed remotely by CompuMed's cardiologists and pediatric cardiologists. CompuMed's CardioGramKids program was designed in tandem with pediatricians and other healthcare providers. The program provides ECG screening services to children and teenagers prior to their taking psychotropic medications or participating in school or afterschool sports programs.

"CompuMed's telemedicine technology enables UMMA Clinic and Fremont High School to provide state of the art electrocardiogram (ECG) screening and diagnostic services to a large number of individuals conveniently, reliably and at a fraction of the cost of alternative methods," said Jackie Provost, Director of Programs for UMMA Clinic and the Fremont High School Health Center. "CompuMed is not just a preeminent technology partner, but a critical link to the medical specialists required to provide everyone at UMMA and Fremont High with the highest level of service and care," added Provost.

About UMMA Clinic

UMMA (University Muslim Medical Association) Community Clinic is the first Muslim American founded community-based health organization in the United States. Located in South Los Angeles, it has a culturally and religiously diverse staff serving an equally diverse population. UMMA's mission is to promote the well-being of the underserved by providing access to high quality healthcare for all regardless of ability to pay. UMMA was started by a small group of UCLA and Charles R. Drew Medical students in 1991. Their goal: to set up a free clinic for the benefit of an entire community, based on the premise that healthcare is a right and not a privilege. UMMA opened its doors as a free clinic in 1996 and earned federal recognition as a Federally Qualified Health Center. In its 15th year of service, UMMA has served over 25,000 patients. UMMA now employs 30 full-time staff and is supported by a legion of volunteers. It serves an annual patient population of over 3,000 individuals who log an average of over 11,000 visits annually. In June, 2011, UMMA completed clinic expansion by doubling the number of exam rooms to better serve its growing patient population. UMMA is currently working with the Los Angeles Unified School District to build and operate a model school-based health clinic at Fremont High School, scheduled to open in May, 2012. UMMA's services include: adult internal medicine, pediatrics, childhood immunizations, on-site mammography, gynecology, adolescent medicine, HIV/STD testing, laboratory services, health education, ophthalmology and dermatology. Since UMMA's birth, over ten other Muslim founded charitable health clinics have been established throughout the United States. Visit UMMA Clinic at http://www.ummaclinic.org.
