Mule ESB Plays Vital Role in Managing Critical Information Exchange for Justice Systems

MuleSoft Simplifies Integration of Disparate Systems and Helps Keep Criminals Off the Street

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 5, 2011) - MuleSoft, provider of the #1 integration platform for the cloud, web and enterprise, today announced that Justice Systems Inc., a case management solution provider for the court system, has implemented Mule ESB to bring scalable and reliable integration to its flagship court case management application.

Justice Systems uses Mule ESB as the integration engine for FullCourt Enterprise®, helping its court system clients interface with external systems and entities, including jails, police departments, payment providers, accounting systems, and other governmental agencies. Mule helps Justice Systems orchestrate message traffic and automate court processes, while preventing information loss and securely preserving the official court record. With Mule ESB seamlessly enabling the information exchange across the extended justice system ecosystem, Justice Systems frees the courts from the technical burdens of integrating with external systems, allowing them to focus on administration of justice.

"Modern software and SaaS solutions cannot be islands of information, and in fact integration with external systems and business partners is a core requirement for today's SaaS providers and ISVs," said Chris Purpura, VP of Business Development at MuleSoft. "Mule is not only the market leader in the ESB category by many measures, but with its lightweight and open architecture, it is uniquely positioned to be embedded by solution providers as the core integration engine for their applications."

Justice Systems has been automating court systems through its case management solutions for more than 25 years, with an installed base of over 600 courts that include prosecutor offices and four state-wide implementations. The development of FullCourt Enterprise® represented a major re-architecture from a legacy client-server model which relied on custom point-to-point integration, to a modern, browser-based, and secure Java-based case management platform. With this generational upgrade, JSI sought an integration solution that was easily configured to accommodate specific courts without spending lots of time on custom coding. The company selected Mule over other ESB options, based on its maturity, lightweight simplicity, active community, and flexibility in integrating both newer technologies as well as legacy systems.

A court messaging interface has a lot of exposure. Any failure would mean that the court and hundreds of users would be negatively impacted because outside agencies such as jails and police departments supply the feed of suspects and incidents that create new cases. Criminals could accidentally go free, and by the same token, mistakenly-arrested inmates would have to stay in jail longer.

"What pleases me most is the robustness of the system," explained Don Harrington, lead Software Engineer for ESB integration at Justice Systems, Inc. "When we brought up our first large court using Mule, I was somewhat nervous, but Mule never failed or misbehaved. Mule just runs; it elevates robust to the level of bulletproof."
