Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. Welcomes New Members to Its Board of Directors

LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) today announced the election of three new members to its Board of Directors. The election results were ratified at CAP's annual meeting on July 21, 2011 at its Los Angeles corporate headquarters.

Lisa Thomsen, MD, FAAFP, a board certified family practitioner in Glendora, joins CAP's 15-member board after serving as a member of CAP's Fellows Program. The remaining two vacancies were filled by current members of the Mutual Protection Trust (MPT) Board of Trustees who will fulfill dual roles as members of each board: Charles Steinmann, MD, a Newport Beach anesthesiologist and Phillip Unger, MD a Fullerton radiologist.

"I am honored to welcome Drs. Thomsen, Steinmann, and Unger as CAP's newest board members," said Chief Executive Officer James L. Weidner. "As former CEO of a thriving medical practice and Chief of Staff at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Thomsen's leadership skills will be a tremendous asset to our already robust board. And as longtime members of various CAP and MPT boards and committee, Drs. Steinmann and Unger have demonstrated remarkable conviction and talent, most notably Dr. Unger's unwavering commitment to champion the individual physician and Dr. Steinmann's financial prowess that has enabled our organization to thrive during the most challenging times," commented Weidner.

Drs. Thomsen, Steinmann, and Unger fill director positions previously held by Daniel Borenstein, MD, a Los Angeles Psychiatrist who joined the board in 1995; Laurie Reynard, MD, a Santa Monica obstetrician and gynecologist, and board member since 2009; and J.E. Hartley Turpin, MD, a Newport Beach family medicine physician, who served on the board since 1997.
