About YMCA of Greater New York:

The YMCA of Greater New York is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves New York City's health and well-being and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors. In scores of neighborhoods across the five boroughs and its camp upstate, the Y makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower more than 400,000 New Yorkers to learn, grow and thrive. The Economic Policy Institute puts the national teen unemployment rate at 24.5 percent. In New York, the problem is even more dramatic, with 32.1 percent of teens presently unemployed. In this time of economic uncertainty, the Y continues to be one of the City's leaders in youth employment. The YMCA of Greater New York currently employs more than 1,800 youth staff between the ages of 14 and 24, working mostly in citywide camps and after school programs. But more than just offering jobs, the Y provides an entryway to youth worker training, putting our kids on the path to becoming tomorrow's teachers and social workers, doctors and lawyers.
