On August 04, 2011, Credit Suisse Group AG, Zürich, Switzerland, notified
us pursuant to § 21 para 1 in conjunction with § 24 WpHG of the following:

On July 29, 2011 the proportion of voting rights of Credit Suisse
Securities (Europe) Limited, London, UK, via shares in Merck KGaA,
Darmstadt, Germany, fell below the threshold of 3% and at that time
amounted to 2.9790% (1,925,095 voting rights).

Through falling below the 3% threshold as mentioned above by Credit Suisse
Securities (Europe) Limited, the proportion of voting rights via shares of
its affiliated companies, these are Credit Suisse Investment Holdings (UK),
London, UK, and Credit Suisse Investments (UK), London, UK also fell below
the threshold of 3% on July 29, 2011 and at that time amounted to 2.9790%
(1,925,095 voting rights). Pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 1 WpHG
these voting rights in total were attributed to each of the companies
mentioned in this paragraph.

For the sake of completeness Credit Suisse Group AG also notified us of the
following:

On July 29, 2011 the proportion of voting rights of Credit Suisse AG,
Zürich, Switzerland, via shares in Merck KGaA still exceeded the threshold
of 3% and at that time amounted to 3.0874% (1,995,109 voting rights).
3.0515% of these voting rights (1,971,903 voting rights) were attributed to
Credit Suisse AG pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 1 WpHG. 0.0324% of
the votings rights (20,934 voting rights) were attributed to Credit Suisse
AG pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 6 in conjunction with § 22 para 1
sentence 2 WpHG.

On July 29, 2011 the proportion of voting rights of Credit Suisse Group AG,
Zürich, Switzerland, via shares in Merck KGaA still exceeded the threshold
of 3% and at that time amounted to 3.0960% (2,000,694 voting rights).
3.0635% of these voting rights (1,979,660 voting rights) were attributed to
Credit Suisse Group AG pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 1 WpHG.
0.0325% of the votings rights (21,034 voting rights) were attributed to
Credit Suisse Group AG pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 6 in
conjunction with § 22 para 1 sentence 2 WpHG.

The chain of the controlling companies, starting with the 'lowest' company
(the company directly holding the voting rights), is as follows: Credit
Suisse Securities (Europe) Ltd., Credit Suisse Investment Holdings (UK),
Credit Suisse Investments (UK), Credit Suisse AG and Credit Suisse Group
AG.
