GULF SHORES, Ala. and ORANGE BEACH, Ala., Aug. 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alabama's white-sand beaches and emerald green waters will once again host hundreds of athletes for the Fifth Annual Brett-Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon. New to the event this year, the triathlon has been designated as the 2011 Best of the US Amateur Championship, which brings together the top amateur triathletes from all 50 states. Each state has just one qualifier race, from which the top three men and women–– regardless of their age ––qualify to represent their state at the national championship in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach on September 10, 2011.

"Thanks to the continued partnership with Team Magic and now with this championship distinction, we are proud to work with Brett-Robinson to raise this event to the next level," said Beth Gendler, vice-president of sales for Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission, which is hosting this triathlon. "Hundreds of athletes choose to take part in our event each year, and we have seen those numbers continue to climb. With a family-oriented beach destination, we offer lots of activities for the athletes and their families to enjoy when they are not competing."

The triathlon will include a 1.5k gulf swim, 40k bike ride and a 10k run but athletes can also register for the "Tri-It-On" triathlon, which includes a 300 yard swim, 10 mile bike ride and a two mile run. The Hangout in Gulf Shores will serve as the race headquarters and is the location of the start/finish line.

Registration for both races can be completed online at www.team-magic.com. If registration is completed before August 17, the cost is $95 for an individual, $170 for a relay team and $50 for the "Tri-It-On" race. After August 17, prices will increase to $125 for an individual, $195 for a relay team and $70 for the "Tri-It-On" race.

Individuals who would like to be a part of the action but do not wish to compete are encouraged to become an event volunteer.

"We could not pull off an event of this caliber without the generosity of our volunteers," Gendler said. "This is a great way to be involved in your community and to earn service hours if you're in school. We are deeply indebted to these individuals and look forward to welcoming you in to the volunteer family."

To sign-up as a volunteer, go to http://teammagic.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer.

"Also, we would like to thank Brett-Robinson for serving as the event title sponsor; they have been phenomenal partners as we have grown this event," Gendler said.
