Fleming was chosen for the board through his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the same historically black fraternity of which Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a member. Along with his fellow board members, Fleming's responsibilities as a member of the board include providing oversight of the budget, operational, and compliance functions of the Foundation and assisting in fundraising.

"I am incredibly humbled by this experience. It is easily the most important charitable endeavor I have ever had the pleasure to participate in," Fleming said. "The most exciting part of this opportunity is seeing the progress that we have made. It's a legacy that I will be able to say I was a part of."

After a span of two decades of planning, designing, and raising funds, the $120 million memorial is ready to be viewed by the public. Dr. King will be honored through several star-studded and high-profiled events and programs throughout the week until the public unveiling of the memorial on August 28.
