Entropic Communications, Wi3 Make Internet-Over-Coax Simple, With New MoCA Based In-Wall Adapter

Sleek and Powerful, the New Wi3 WiPNET, Powered by Entropic's Silicon, is the Only In-Wall Internet-Over-Coax Wired Networking Solution Available Today

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, and Wi3 a developer of world-class digital networking products, today announced availability of a new class of home networking adapters. The new adapter, the Wi3 WiPNET, based on the MoCA® (multimedia over coax) standard, has an unobtrusive, modern design to seamlessly blend-in with home aesthetics and leverages Entropic's powerful MoCA-based silicon and software to turn any home network into a secure high speed Internet power house.

In March 2011, market research firm, Infonetics Research, released its quarterly market forecast report, Home Networking Devices, which found the small but fast-growing MoCA adapter segment posted the highest revenue growth (93%) in 2010 of all home networking devices. This dynamic growth showcases the demand by consumers to enhance their overall connected home entertainment experience.

The Wi3 WiPNET is a fast, easy-to-deploy and reliable home networking solution. With no holes to drill, no wires to pull, no sheetrock to cut and no surprises – the solution simply mounts into a standard wall bracket. Simply plug the router into any self-configuring WiPNET port to turn the coax infrastructure in the home into a powerful Ethernet network.

"Sharing multimedia content throughout the home should be easy. Our patented wall port design coupled with Entropic's field proven MoCA technology, allow installers to easily, reliably and cost-effectively add a MoCA network to any home with coaxial cabling," said Bill Thomson, chief executive officer, Wi3. "Our WiPNET solution delivers the best quality of experience and service to bring out the best in end-users' consumer electronics and multimedia devices within the home."

Leveraging Entropic's MoCA silicon and software, the Wi3 WiPNET delivers high quality bandwidth to as many as 16 locations throughout the home; allowing consumers to take full advantage of the reliability and speed required to connect the growing number of Internet-based home entertainment devices (i.e. connected TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles and audio/video libraries) to their in-home broadband network. WiPNET's patented cartridge and sleeve design allow customers to upgrade their networks for additional ports or to support new features in the future.

As the fastest growing home networking technology standard, MoCA is deployed by more U.S. cable and satellite providers than any other home networking standard. MoCA enables the delivery of high definition (HD) streaming content, enhanced support for over-the-top (OTT) video services, and can be used to distribute high-quality multi-room DVR capabilities, among other high-speed networking applications.

"With so few homes  wired with category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet, the ability to use simple-to-install solutions, like the Wi3 WiPNET, to turn existing home coax into a dynamic Ethernet home network, becomes ever more appealing," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Entropic. "By partnering with Wi3, we are enabling MoCA-enabled devices to work seamlessly together in order to provide consumers with any room access to their home entertainment content."

Availability

The Wi3 WiPNET MoCA adapter is currently available to custom integrators. The device will be demonstrated in multiple locations at the CEDIA Expo 2011 – Booth numbers 327, 1327, 2140 and 4754 – in Indianapolis, IN, September 7-10, 2011.
