OMA Reports August 2011 Passenger Traffic


MONTERREY, Mexico, Sept. 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports decreased 1.5% in August 2011, as compared to August 2010. Domestic traffic decreased 0.3%, and international traffic decreased 9.3%.

Of total August traffic, 96.8% was commercial aviation and 3.2% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in seven airports in August, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+3.0%), Tampico (+21.1%), and Ciudad Juárez (+5.0%). In Monterrey, traffic increased principally on the Mexico City, Cancún, and San José del Cabo routes. In Tampico, traffic increased on the Mexico City and Monterrey routes. In Ciudad Juárez, traffic increased on the Mexico City and Guadalajara routes. Traffic decreased most at the airports in Acapulco (-21.1%), Chihuahua (-14.2%), and Culiacán (-5.3%). In Acapulco, the reduction was primarily on the Mexico City and Guadalajara routes. In Chihuahua, the reduction was on the Toluca and Guadalajara routes. The reduction in Culiacán was principally on the Toluca, Tijuana, and Guadalajara routes.

International traffic increased most significantly in Mazatlán (+8.0%), principally because of the start of operations of a route to Dallas and an increase in traffic on the Toronto route. The greatest decreases were recorded in Monterrey (-9.2%), Acapulco (-51.9%), and Zihuatanejo (-34.2%).  Monterrey traffic decreased most on the Houston and Miami routes. Acapulco traffic decreased most on the Phoenix and Houston routes. Zihuatanejo traffic decreased principally on the Houston, Los Angeles, and Phoenix routes.

The total number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in August decreased 5.6% as compared to the prior year period. Domestic flights decreased 5.8%, and international flights decreased 4.4%.
