AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, 2011-09-09 08:00 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
(IBC2011; Stand 3.A41) -- At IBC2011, Stand 3.A41, Entropic Communications,
Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to
enable connected home entertainment, will highlight the next evolution in
accessing, viewing, and controlling operator content from any TV or connected
device in the home. The demonstration leverages equipment being deployed in the
United States by leading satellite provider DIRECTV to deliver multi-room DVR
services, as well as the Remote User Interface (RUI) solutions based on the
publically available RVU standard. Devices used in the demonstration include
the DIRECTV RVU-enabled HR34 Home Media Server and the recently RVU-certified
Pace C30 thin client set-top box, both powered by Entropic's leading MoCA(r)
(Multimedia over Coax) silicon and software.

As the TV viewing habits of European consumers transition from a single viewing
location to looking more like North American households, traditional
broadcasters, pay TV operators, over-the-top providers, and mainstream consumer
electronics (CE) organizations are in a race to own the consumers' primary TV
screen, as well as the subsequent screens in the home. This new multi-screen
home entertainment environment has changed the TV viewing paradigm and opened
new opportunities for services such as RVU and multi-room DVR, as operators can
capitalize on these technologies to rapidly introduce new features and
applications, as well as enhance the overall whole-home TV viewing experience.

The publically available RVU standard allows a single server in a household to
serve multiple clients simultaneously, providing every TV the same consistent
user interface and experience. The HR34 and C30 devices showcase the power of
the RVU standard for providing consumers a seamless, consistent, feature-rich
user interface across all CE devices and multi-screen environments. Both the
HR24 and C30 devices feature Entropic's field-proven, high-bandwidth MoCA
silicon and software, currently being used by DIRECTV to enable services such
as multi-room DVR. Entropic's solution transforms the existing coaxial
infrastructure into a highly-efficient, affordable and reliable whole-home
entertainment network, ready to meet the new video delivery demands required by
the convergence of broadcast and broadband networks, as well as to support the
delivery of RVU technology.

'As European TV habits evolve, we're proud to be demonstrating cutting edge
solutions for operators such as those being deployed by DIRECTV at our stand
this year,' said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business
Development, Entropic Communications. 'As the recognized pioneer in MoCA
development and deployment, our MoCA silicon can distribute content from the
RVU server to a thin client with the assurance of the most reliable whole-home
network for HD video and streaming media services.'

DIRECTV began to trial the Entropic MoCA-based RVU-enabled DIRECTV
server/client in May 2011, with a full U.S. roll-out expected later in the
year.

At IBC2011, attendees can experience this powerful demonstration and the future
of connected home entertainment, by visiting the Entropic Communications Stand
3.A41. Additionally, DIRECTV's Romulo Pontual, executive vice president and
CTO, will be participating in an IBC2011 keynote panel, titled, 'Connected TV:
Re-making the TV Industry: The Battle for the Home Screen.' This session, on 10
September 2011, opens the dialogue on the tactics required to add more
flexibility in how consumers access, view and interact with content; making it
a suitable conversation for RVU and Entropic's MoCA backbone.
