Global Kids, Award-Winning International High School Education Program, Asks for Your Vote in American Giving Awards Program

New York City and D.C. Non-Profit Aims for $1 Million Top Prize - But Needs Community Support Online!

NEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Global Kids (www.globalkids.org), the premier non-profit educational organization for global learning and youth development in New York City and D.C. public schools, is on top of the world after the American Giving Awards program (www.facebook.com/ChaseCommunityGiving) selected it for an online competition that could lead to $1 million in new funding. American Giving Awards, presented by Chase, is the first ever celebrity tribute to community heroes.

"This is an unprecedented opportunity to help our country understand we live in a global world and if we want to compete in the 21st century we have to ensure all students are equipped with the skills they'll need. Global Kids is ready to go into action for America but first we need the resources to continue our innovative afterschool, in-school and online programs," says Evie Hantzopoulos, Executive Director, Global Kids. "If you've thought American students were uninformed or apathetic, then vote for us because Global Kids Leaders are tackling some of the most pressing issues here and abroad."

Global Kids just returned from summer study in Brazil and Kenya. Students regularly meet with leaders such as UN Ambassador Susan Rice and study with fellows at the Council on Foreign Relations and at the U.S. State Department.

Voting in the first round will run Sept. 28–Oct. 5. Supporters just have to visit the American Giving Awards program on Facebook to help Global Kids win at http://vote.globalkids.org. Global Kids has formed a coalition and encourages supporters to vote for Atlas Corps, Seeds of Peace, and Trees, Water & People, along with Global Kids.

Once the five finalists have been chosen out of all 25 competing, there will be a second round of voting Dec. 2–9. The top eligible charity at the end of the second round will receive $1 million, with smaller amounts going to other top vote-getters.
