SCM Microsystems Introduces ARYGON UHF Desktop Reader

ISMANING, Germany, Oct. 4, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SCM Microsystems, a leading provider of solutions for secure access, secure identity and secure exchange and a business unit of Identive Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:INVE) (Frankfurt:INV), today announced the launch of a new high-performance UHF (ultra high frequency) desktop reader designed especially for retail and specialty tracking environments. Sold under SCM's ARYGON brand, the new AUDR-USB delivers a compact, desktop package for close-range applications such as point-of-sale checkout and on-the-shelf inventory management at an attractive price.

"Passive UHF technology is gaining importance for asset management in high-volume applications such as warehouse inventory management and logistics tracking because of its small form factor and low cost of ownership. In response to demand from systems integrators for a UHF reader suitable for smaller areas and more targeted reads, we have developed a compact desktop UHF reader that offers short-range reading distance," said Michael Ganzera, Vice President Business Development & Marketing for SCM Microsystems. "As the first in a series of planned UHF offerings, this new ARYGON reader is an important addition to our portfolio of RFID products and accessories and supports the latest trends and chip generations for UHF desktop applications."

The ARYGON AUDR-USB UHF reader

Compliant with ISO 18000-6 and the EPC Gen 2 standard for passive UHF RFID, the innovative ARYGON AUDR-USB provides excellent price performance for close-range applications. Communicating via USB device protocol, the reader is easily integrated into existing PC-based tracking systems and POS terminals. A slim form factor makes it ideal for integration into a variety of environments including tag production, testing and initialization systems. The AUDR-USB supports all globally-used UHF frequency bands and is EPC Class 1 Gen 2 6c and b compliant. UHF chips supported include NXP Semiconductors' UCODE and Monza chips from IMPINJ. The AUDR-USB has been tested to comply with FCC regulations. A test and integration kit (AUDR-USB-TIK) that includes a reader, test software and USB source code is immediately available for application developers and system integrators.

Under its ARYGON brand, SCM offers a range of contactless reader/writer modules, desktop products and accessories including smart cards, key fobs and wristbands.
